I was speaking with a close friend the other day and she said the most insightful thing:
“I love speaking with you about my failures because they make me feel more connected to you, to my own vulnerability and to the humanness of others.”
The truth of that statement has been lingering all week.
Be uplifted by your failures and friends
By opening up to each other and sharing authentically about our “human-ness,” we create intimacy and connection, which is a real, physiological need.
It reminded me of these words by Albert Schweitzer:
“Sometimes our light goes out, but is blown again into instant flame by an encounter with another human being.”
It also reminded me that most of the emails I receive and those of you who come to me for coaching, are drawn to me not because of any of my accomplishments or training, but because you relate to my challenges and so called ‘ failures.’
You mention how you can identify with my struggles with depression, losing loved ones, chronic illness, relationship difficulties, overcoming eating disorders, social phobia, and my ongoing journey towards becoming my own best friend.
Someone who has learned to trust in herself wholeheartedly.
Someone who continues to develop their own inner mentor and embrace a more reasonable internal voice.
The good news is that I don’t see any perfect humans around here! I truly believe that most of us are doing our very best with the inner resources we have at this point and time.
My encouragement for you all today is to be uplifted by your failures and challenges.
Move them away from the shame and judgement and into the light of another human being.
Failures are our greatest learning opportunities (as long as we are willing to learn from them versus using them as something to beat ourselves up with).
When you speak more openly about your mistakes and challenges and how they have affected you, you will feel supported and more able to let go of any shame you may be feeling.
Today and each day, change the way you see your perceived failures.
They might just be part of your greatness.
PS: I’m reopening my coaching!
After having a full practice all year, I’m excited to announce that I have space for two more long term clients and some single session clients, beginning mid-August.
If you’re in a period of transition or high stress, I can help you.
If you are a coach or counsellor, looking at bringing your business online, or are still not getting the results you want; I can help you!
Coaching has been my passion and profession for over 10 years now and there’s a lot we can clear up in just one session.
